The World Lottery Association’s Year in Review

world lottery association

The world lottery association is the global standard-bearer for state-sanctioned lotteries in their august mission to raise funds for good causes. This year, WLA members contributed USD 82.3 billion to society – and stood together in their unified resolve to fight illegal betting and sports integrity threats.

WLA is proud to support the work of the women and men in our 149 member lotteries and their many associate members across six continents who strive daily for responsible gaming. We believe that gender parity is a crucial pillar of the industry’s overall social responsibility.

In 2022, the world began to turn the page on the global COVID-19 pandemic, and WLA shifted gears, refocusing on building resilience and strengthening the lottery community’s global networks. This Year in Review showcases key accomplishments from the past twelve months – including the milestone events of WLS 2022 – and offers a glimpse of what’s ahead.

This year, the WLA Responsible Gaming Awards were expanded to include all WLA RGF Level 4 certified members, and attracted a record number of applications. The awards honor the outstanding achievements and commitment of a select group of lottery operators who are setting high standards for their players, and who are dedicated to fostering responsible play. WLA also continues to collect, analyze and publish the GLMS quarterly lottery sales indicator, which is designed to provide lotteries, suppliers and the public with snapshots of shorter-term global and regional lottery sales trends.
