In 2019, the WLA celebrated its 20th anniversary, welcoming a new president and executive director. The association provides services and advocacy to its member lotteries, including lobbying on behalf of member lotteries, developing partnerships with worldwide sports federations, and setting global standards for security and risk management. In addition to its advocacy, the WLA also provides members with a variety of other services to enhance their operations. Listed below are some of the benefits of joining WLA.

Responsible Gaming: Responsible gaming is an integral part of lottery operations, and the WLA’s Responsibility Gaming Principles help members to facilitate safe, responsible gaming for their players. WLA members are bound by the WLA’s Responsible Gaming Principles, which they adopted in 2006. This Framework focuses on promoting public safety and sustaining revenue for the public good. A WLA Member can attain all four levels of achievement, while still maintaining their individual safeguards.
