If you have ever played the lottery, you may have heard of hexadecimal numbers. These numbers are base 16 numbers, and have digits ranging from 0 to 9. These numbers are used in computer programming and are similar to decimal numbers. Hexadecimal numbers are also easier to read because they only require four bits to represent each character.

The DOE uses the same lottery number for all schools, which is not necessarily a bad thing, as literature suggests it does not penalize students and increases their chances of matching with their top choice. In fact, a student with a good lottery number has a higher chance of being assigned to their top choice, compared to a student who received a low lottery number. Even then, the odds of not getting an offer are about the same, regardless of which lottery number they received.

All students who wish to move into a dorm room in the spring of 2022 will receive a computer-generated lottery number. These numbers are weighted according to class level information provided by the Registrar’s Office. Students will receive information about their lottery number in early March. These lottery numbers are important because they will help determine selection priorities.
